The Wise Company Emergency Food Supply 120 Servings is a food kit that comes in a bucket and consists of quick to prepare entrées.

Weighting in at 20 lbs. and measuring 11.75 x 9.75 x 14.75 inches, the bucket holds 30 individually sealed food packets, which are ready to eat by just adding one cup of hot water per serving, stirring the contents, and letting the covered mix sit for 15 minutes, approximately.

Manufactured in the USA, the Readywise Emergency Food Supply bundle dispenses 120 servings, and each one of these provides a total average of 208 calories, 6 g of protein, 3 g of fat, and 40 g of carbohydrates, 2 of those being fiber.  The bucket has a shelf life of 25 years since the food pouches are packaged in Metallyte mylar.  Unfortunately, once open, the pouch has to be consumed in its entirety, as this isn’t a resealable zip lock packet.

The bundle includes the following flavors: Cheesy Lasagna, Chicken Flavored Noodle Soup, Chili Macaroni, Savory Stroganoff, Pasta Alfredo, Tomato Basil Soup with Pasta, Loaded Baked Potato Casserole, Creamy Pasta and Vegetables, Hearty Tortilla Soup, Teriyaki and Rice, Potato and Chicken Flavored Pot Pie, Southwest Rice and Beans, and Cheesy Macaroni.

In no particular order, we began our tasting by trying the Cheesy Lasagna.  It smells pretty good, and it has a decent texture; we do wish it were a little bit cheesier, but it’s definitely tasty.  Then we have some of the Chicken Flavored Noodle Soup.  The “flavored” description must be highlighted because, although there are no pieces of chicken in this pouch, the taste is certainly there.  Moving on, we have the Chili Macaroni.  Despite the fact that there are no chunks of meat to be found, this clearly smells and tastes like beef, and we appreciate the right hint of red pepper.

Next, we sample the Savory Stroganoff.  It has a soupy consistency, which is not ideal, but it does taste delicious.  Coming up, we have the Pasta Alfredo.  The overall feel is slightly more watery than we would like, but the flavor is good.  Afterward, we enjoy a bit of the Tomato Basil Soup with Pasta.  This is the best tasting dish so far; we do recommend, though, to stir this serving properly and leave it to sit a bit longer so the liquid gets absorbed into the dehydrated pieces, that way the tomato concentrate can really shine.

We now take a bite of the Loaded Baked Potato Casserole.  It’s a bit chewy, and not very clear what the small pieces in it are, but they seem to be some sort of cold meat, maybe ham.  It looks more like a soup than a casserole, but it’s palatable.  We, then, try the Creamy Pasta and Vegetables.  It acquires and excellent, thick texture after it’s stirred well, and the flavor is pleasant.  Next, we have some Hearty Tortilla Soup.  Fans of garlic will be pleased with this entrée as were we, the overly soft texture might disappoint some.

Pushing on, we try the Teriyaki and Rice mix.  This has a distinct ginger flavor that many may not welcome; in those cases, the flavors can be balanced by adding a bit of soy sauce to the combination.  The Potato and Chicken Flavored Pot Pie is up.  This might be the most underwhelming sample of the bunch, mainly due to its texture, considering we were expecting a more solid blend.

Our excitement reignites thanks to the Southwest Rice and Beans.  We were pleasantly surprised to see actual pieces of beans in the mix, and the taste was great.  We do suggest an absorption time longer than 15 minutes, otherwise the beans might be slightly chewy.  Finally, we try the Cheesy Macaroni.  We hoped it would be cheesier, but this mix is gooey enough and certainly delicious.

This food kit is perfect for camping, backpacking, or hiking trips, since the hot water can be directly added to the pouches, and, thus, eliminate the need to carry plates.  Because they are so portable and convenient, one can even take a pouch to work in case they don’t have time to head out for lunch or prepare a meal at home.

An issue we found with this food supply is its extremely high sodium content.  A consumer will not only have to bear enough water to cook the mixes in the packets, but also have potable drinking water available as to not become dangerously dehydrated.  As one would eventually need to find other sources of food and H2O, this kit is not recommended for a long-term emergency, but it certainly works well as a transition bundle.
