Leatherman Charge TTi Multitool Product Review
Leatherman has over 30-years of experience in designing and building multitools and the Leatherman Charge TTI is its peak. There’s no wonder it’s one of their more popular multitools, and we think it has what it takes to be your companion whatever the situation.
All Leatherman multitools are well made, but not all tools are as polished as the Charge TTI with its smooth fold and ability to lock into place without any noticeable wiggles or delay.
The Charge uses a standard butterfly fold configuration, which has been proven to be the most effective shape and format for optimal results.
The Charge includes:
- Needlenose Pliers
- Regular Pliers
- Premium replaceable wire cutters
- Premium replaceable hard-wire cutters
- Electrical crimper
- Wire stripper
- S30V knife
- 420HC Serrated knife
- Spring-action scissors
The Charge TTI is reminiscent of the Wave+, but the only distinction is the inclusion of a cutting hook on the rear of the serrated knife blade and the use of better and more expensive materials.
The serrated knife is made of 420 high carbon steel, which means it is corrosion-resistant and can be used in the rain without rust burdening performance. It is made for cutting through the most robust materials.
The second knife is crafted from S30V steel, which is wear and corrosion resistant and is an excellent choice for any survival knife.
The accessory set includes a removable clip, which allows you to wear the multitool attached to your pocket or belt loop, and a removable quick-release lanyard ring, giving you a choice to connect to a lanyard.
The inclusion of a lanyard ring makes it easier if you’re surrounded by water, as you won’t have to worry about losing any pieces if it’s attached to you and in sight at all times.
It mimics the functionality of a pocket knife, as it features tools that are accessible while the device is folded or in a closed position. This feature makes for efficient use and will bring success to any task you’re undertaking.
A downside to the Charge TTI is its weight. With a weight of 252g, it falls on the heavier side and be burdensome when attached to your pocket or belt. That said, compared to other multitools at this level, this Leatherman classic comes with ample options for carrying.
The Charge TTI multitool falls on the more expensive side of the price spectrum, and will no doubt result in a stretch of many budgets, but we think it is worth the time because of the quality you’ll be working with for various tasks.
You can purchase this multitool with confidence knowing should you experience any problems during your expedition, Leatherman offers a 25-year warranty and will communicate well to resolve any issues.
There is no disputing that the Charge TTI is one of the best multitools offered by Leatherman, combining the finest materials with the best craftsmanship to produce a truly special product.
Two of the main drawbacks of this multitool are its weight and price tag. However, we have noticed the various options of carrying, which will make this bulky multitool seem light, or lighter.
As for the price, if you are unable to sprawl out your budget, then Leatherman offers the Wave+, which is a near-identical product without the costly price tag.
Some multitools do it for you, and some simply don’t make the cut, that’s why investing in a Leatherman multitool would be an excellent choice. They are reliable and trustworthy and offer an array of products that at least one will meet your survival needs.
