Black Diamond Equipment has manufactured equipment for climbing, skiing, and mountain sports for over three decades. Based in Utah, United States, it has since become one of the go-to brands for survivalists around the world.

  • Wide evenly lit flood beam
  • Sleek, low profile design
  • Waterproof

Cons

  • Single button can be hard to use

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp Product Review

The Black Diamond Spot Headlamp is an excellent headlamp that features an impressive 300 lumens of adjustable light that is suitable for a range of challenges you’ll expect to face on an outdoor adventure.

It is ideal for both daytime use and covers you for all-night sessions, enhancing your survival chances with the provision of light. There are many settings to make it adaptable to various climates, with its full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night-vision, and lock mode.

Like the rest of the BD family, the Spot includes brightness memory. This feature means that when you turn your headlamp on, it will return to the setting it was on when it was turned off.

The brightness memory feature benefits you greatly as it saves time and energy, and you won’t have to adjust to your environment regularly. Another advantage is that it prevents your eyes from suffering the maximum brightness each time you turn it on, which can cause damage to your overall sight.

You won’t have to restrict where you use this heavy-duty headlamp. If your adventure moves into wetter climates, the Spot headlamp secures you with its IPX8 water-rating, which allows for the headlamp to survive being submerged 1 meter underwater for 30-minutes.

Although waterproof, the battery compartment is not sealed, and therefore the water can leak in. That said, this should not destroy the headlamp, but it might not work until it dries out again – which is why we recommend when encountered with water, to be quick-drying the compartment.

The Spot requires 3 AAA batteries, which are all included with your purchase, which doesn’t provide as much brightness or battery life compared to other headlamps of the BD range, including the Storm.

That said, the Spot has an impressive battery life. BD claims it offers 175-hours of battery life for when low power mode is in use and 30-hours in high power mode 300 lumens. The headlamp also features a battery indicator to let you know how much juice is left in your batteries.

One of the drawbacks of this headlamp is that it doesn’t include rechargeable batteries, which are commonly used for extreme-conditioned adventures.

So, if rechargeable batteries are something you prefer, BD does offer an alternative with the ReVolt headlamp. The ReVolt practically resembles the Spot but rises in price.

Overall, the Spot is an excellent lamp with tons of features that make it a worthy contender to be added to a survival kit. It has a competitive position on the market with its brand, the quality of the lamp, and the attractive budget-friendly price.

Summary

At an affordable price, the Black Diamond Spot headlamp is a great choice to light up many adventures for survivalists of different expertise.

It offers an excellent range of light and configurations, and with a good battery life, it will provide you with a view to better your chances in a variety of survival circumstances.

The Spot is a compact headlamp that fits in any backpack and securely fits on your head. The single strap is made from a durable material but is also stretchable maximizing comfort and catering for various head measurements.

We hope this review has brought extra confidence to your decision on what headlamp to go for, helping you understand the market better and separating the best from the worst.
